5.Refund Policy
Your decision to donate to us is appreciated. As with any tax-deductible charitable contribution, any on-line contribution made to us cannot be cancelled or returned once it has been approved and completed. Of course, should an error be made by us or by our financial institution(s), full refunds will be made immediately upon notification of the error and all costs be borne by us. Refunds cannot be made in the case of unforeseen circumstances which cause an appeal to be terminated as per the Terminated Appeals information in Section 6 below.
6. Treatment of Donations
The way we spend your donation depends upon the appeal that you choose to support. In the vast majority of cases 100% of the donation that you make will go straight toward paying for the particular equipment and/or services detailed in the appeal – we do not charge any fees, or even deduct the credit card and PayPal fees that we incur when donors pay via those methods.
However, as from November 1st 2011, for some appeals only, there may be a 10% fee charged on donations received in excess of $5,000 to ensure that we can remain financially viable. Here’s how it works:
The way we help families depends on the amount of funding assistance they need.
STANDARD APPEALS
This is our core work and our core focus. Standard Appeals are launched for families requiring funding for equipment and/or services with a value of up to $5,000. For Standard Appeals, 100% of every donation received goes toward payment of the equipment and/or services being funded – we do not charge any fees, or even deduct the credit card and PayPal fees that we incur when donors pay via those methods.
BIG BUCKS APPEALS
We are aware that for many families there are some ‘big ticket’ items that are well out of their reach financially – items such as wheelchair access home modifications and wheelchair accessible vehicles or vehicle modifications. We are also aware that, depending upon which State they live in, there can be little or no support for families with respect to the funding of such items – regardless of the fact that they are so necessary for the ongoing safety of both the parents and the child.
In response, we recently trialled several appeals for these larger items.
Whilst those appeals worked very well for the families, for I Give A Buck! they brought with them huge transaction fees over and above what we are reasonably able to absorb, along with such a large amount of administrative work that it then became difficult to ensure our standard appeals were also able to receive our full attention.
As of November 1st 2011, in order to continue to help families with funding these more expensive items, whilst still maintaining our ongoing financial viability, we created a ‘second tier’ to our current services – BIG Bucks Appeals – for those children who need in excess of $5,000 of funding assistance.
As with our Standard Appeals, the first $5,000 of donations will be received without I Give A Buck! charging any fees or deducting any credit card charges etc. However, for all amounts in excess of $5,000 a 10% administration charge will be deducted. This fee will cover the excess costs incurred by I Give A Buck! in managing larger appeals on behalf of families.
In addition to our Standard Appeals and BIG Bucks Appeals you can also make a General Donation. We use general donations to help children who can’t be featured in public appeals for privacy reasons and also, occasionally, to pay a bill if we can’t find a business to sponsor it for us.
Excess Donations
Occasionally we receive more funds for a particular appeal than are required. We do everything that we can to avoid this by closing our online appeals as soon as the target amounts are reached. Usually these excess funds occur because we receive cheques in the mail after the appeal closes. All excess funds are redirected into other children’s appeals.
Terminated Appeals
We do all that we can to ensure that the information that parents and guardians provide to us in their application for assistance is true, correct and complete. Should we discover in the course of an appeal that this has not been the case, the appeal concerned will be immediately terminated until the issue can be resolved. All donations received into that appeal will be held until the issue has been resolved. If the issue cannot be resolved those donations will be redirected into other children’s appeals.
